To understand what today’s players really want from modern online casinos, we recently spoke to Alexander Korsager, Chief Gaming Officer at Casino.org and iGaming expert with more than 10 years of experience in the sector, to find out how the industry has changed and what players are looking for today!
Thanks for joining us, Alexander. We understand you’ve been working in the online casino world for over 10 years – how has the iGaming sector changed in that time?
The changes within the online casino world over the last decade have been phenomenal to witness, and it’s a transformation that is ongoing as we speak. The overall standard and quality of gaming options available to today’s players is really exciting, and leading gaming sites look and feel dramatically different to how they did just 10 years ago. I think wider developments in digital technology have had an enormous impact in that time – meaning that everything from payment processing to UX design features are much more sophisticated than they used to be. There’s also an incredible atmosphere of innovation, especially as casino platforms begin to incorporate new technologies like AI. We’re really seeing a huge increase in both the amount and the overall standard of options available to players.
How have these changes affected the expectations of modern players, and what are some key priorities for those comparing casino platforms today?
I think what players really want from modern online casinos is reliability and quality. With so many platforms competing for their attention, most players are well aware that they don’t need to settle for a subpar gaming experience. They know they can find a better option, whether that’s through consulting our expert guidance over at Casino.org, or listening to recommendations from their fellow players. Due to this increasingly competitive atmosphere in the iGaming space, we’re seeing that people want to find sites that are reliable and performing at a very high standard, and they are prioritizing operators that are providing an industry-leading offering. That growing demand for quality now applies to every single facet of each online casino, from near-instant payout speeds, to the quality and variety of experiences on offer.
The regulatory landscape has also changed significantly in recent years. How are ongoing changes to regulation in the iGaming space affecting players?
This is absolutely significant, and it can be a challenge to keep up with the latest changes to regulation, so keeping players updated is a key part of our role at Casino.org! Each market is unique, with different regulatory bodies taking different approaches to things like licensing, player protections and advertizing standards. Take the US for example – since online casino regulation is managed at the state level, we’ve seen a patchwork of different approaches to the iGaming sector emerging in recent years. States like West Virginia have legalized online casino gaming, and since the market opened in 2019 we’ve seen West Virginia’s online casino options improve dramatically as you can also see in our coverage on Casino.org. I think regulation has become an important part of the decision-making process for players, as they want to know they’re accessing a platform that operates legally within their market and meets those high standards.
New technologies have utterly transformed the online casino experience. Which developments have had the biggest impact for players?
I think mobile gaming has been one of the biggest changes, as players now expect to be able to access a high-quality casino experience from almost anywhere. Platforms had to adapt their offerings quickly, as players increasingly expect everything to work seamlessly across multiple devices. Improvements to payment technology have also made a difference, particularly as people have come to expect consistently fast and convenient digital transactions. We’re also seeing operators place much more emphasis on personalization, with AI systems allowing platforms to create experiences that feel more tailored to individual users. It’s a very exciting and innovative time, although regulation needs to move quickly to keep up.
Looking ahead, what do you think players can expect from the online casino industry over the next few years?
I think we’re going to see greater competition between operators, which should ultimately bring positive results for players. As technology continues to develop, platforms will have to keep finding new ways to compete and improve the overall experience they offer. We could see further developments for gaming formats, payment methods and personalized gaming experiences, whilst regulation will continue to play an important role in upholding player protections. Ultimately, I think the operators that are going to stand out will be the ones that can combine innovation with a trusted reputation. Players have more choice than ever before, which means they want the best possible experience!
