Introduction of Pai Gow Poker

For the novice player, the Pai Gow poker is the friendliest of the poker games. In online casinos, you can play it against a dealer, even if there are more of you at the table. Pai Gow, a variation on a poker theme, try it. If you play classic five-card poker or Texas Holdem Poker, you won't have a problem getting into the game. But even a beginner will quickly understand the rules.

The game starts with seven cards

Seven cards divided into two piles. It is played with 53 cards of the French type, one joker remains in the deck. The dealer and the player look at the cards and divide them into two groups - one with five cards and the other with two.

How to split cards? The rules are given and they are uncompromising - if it is possible to build a better combination with five cards, the player must do it. Even if he breaks a pair of aces in the second group.

After placing bets, the game itself begins. The player or players turn over the cards (the dealer dealt last). Each group separately and first the one with two cards. If a player has a combination worse than the dealer does, he turns the cards back up. The winner is the one whose cards are revealed, his reward is twice the amount wagered.

Players never play against each other; the opponent of each of them is the dealer. What if one player wins one and loses to another? The game ends in a tie and the player gets the bet back.

Why play Pai Gow Poker Online?

  • One on one game against the casino
  • The easiest of poker games
  • One bet in each game. No bidding

By the way, do you wonder why there is one joker left in the deck? It plays the role of a "wild card", in the combination it substitutes for the missing card; in the flush, it replaces the highest card. If the joker stands alone, it has the value of an ace. The strongest Pai Gow combination? Five aces, royal flush, straight flush, and four of kind.

History of Pai Gow

Pai Gow has its roots in ancient China, where the game was played with dominoes instead of poker cards. Today, it is not known exactly how old the game is, but it is estimated at at least a few hundred years.

In the old version of the game, dominoes were divided into several different groups that symbolized military and civilian units. The dealer then shot a dice that decided which stone would go to which player. In short, let us just say that in its early stages, Pai Gow was a complicated game.

How Pai Gow Became a Card Game

If we continue further into modern days, many forms of Pai Gow have emerged in different parts of the world. At the end of the 20th century, the game "merged" with poker, and Pai Gow Poker was formed as a descendant. One might say that Pai Gow Poker is actually a new game, but its roots grow hundreds of years to the past.

In the mid-eighties of the last century, Fred Wolf introduced Pai Gow poker or so-called double-handed poker in California. The game immediately became a hit and didn't take long until the Pai Gow was introduced in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Nowadays, you can play Pai Gow Poker in casinos around the world, but the game is especially popular in the world of online casinos.

Strategy for Pai Gow Poker

This game is played with a deck of 53 cards including a joker. Everyone gets 7 cards, which he divides so that he has 5 in one hand and 2 cards in the other. Both hands compare each other. The rating is the same as in poker. Higher wins. If a player beats the banker with only one of the hand, he gets his bet back.

General principles

  • Cards 2 to 6 are low pairs
  • Cards 7 to 10 are medium pairs
  • Cards J to K are high pairs

The most important factor influencing your chances of winning is the amount of the bet. The art of taking a risk at the right time and betting a larger amount is one of the main factors of the whole game. Another very important thing is how well you organize your cards. Theoretically, you can use pre-arranged schemes to organize your cards, but it is probably not good enough to practice in a real game. The easier way is to remember that most often you will have 7 cards when you get at least 2 pairs. It is thus appropriate either to keep those pairs together or to divide them according to the following view:

  • Low pair and low pair - split unless you have a king or better.
  • Low pair and middle pair - split unless you have a king or better.
  • Low pair and high pair - split unless you have an ace.
  • Medium pair and medium pair - split if you do not have an ace yet.
  • Middle pair and high pair - always split.
  • High pair and high pair - always split.
  • A pair of aces and any other pair - always split.

Another useful tool may be to find out what system the casino uses before playing Pai Gow Poker. Individual casinos may also have their own, slightly different card-splitting systems.
